H-1B Visa
What is an H-1B Visa?
An H-1B visa allows US companies to temporarily hire a foreign-born national to work in a specialty occupation or as a fashion model of distinguished merit and ability.
What is an H-1B Specialty Occupation?
An H-1B specialty occupation requires the practical and theoretical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge to fully perform the job and requires a bachelor’s or higher degree in a specific specialty or its equivalent as a minimum entry into the job in the US. For more information, see Eligibility Criteria for Specialty Occupations.
What is the H-1B Visa Cap?
The H-1B program establishes an annual cap of 65,000 visas each year. Also, H-1B workers employed with an institution of higher education, a nonprofit research organization or a government research organization are not subject to this numerical cap. For more info regarding the H-1B cap see H-1B Cap Season.
What is the Duration for H-1B Status?
H-1B nonimmigrants are admitted for up to three years, and this period can generally be extended for a maximum of up to six years. However, there are exceptions to this six year maximum duration.
